Household Bank Credit Card Sucks
Home

I accepted HOUSEHOLD BANK's offer of a credit card with a $2,000 credit limit.

i validated the card, selected a pin for atm transactions, and used the card to charge a few things.

my first month's bill arrived for a correct $159.00. unfortunately, what also arrived was a notice informing me that they were suddenly reducing my credit from the original agreement of $2,000 down to a paltry $306 dollars. not only that, they suspended my charging privileges!

their reasoning was the number of times i used the cash withdrawal. i never used the cash withdrawal!

i attempted to use it once, but my newly selected and validated by phone pin number was not accepted. when i called customer service, they told me to try again, which i did. finally, after giving me the runaround, somebody there told me that there was an ongoing problem with their system, that new cardholders' pin numbers were not reflected in the system right away and that they were in the process of "working on" solving this problem.

satisfied with that explanation i didn't use the cash withdrawal feature.

But I'm not at all satisified with their mailing to me.  i called the customer service today, for some elucidation as to why I would have my card suspended. It was explained to me that HOUSEHOLD BANK sees cash withdrawals as "high risk" because of the high insurance rate on them.

well, why offer that feature then if you're going to penalize and disdain your members who utilize the very feature you offer and encourage them to use!

I get credit card offers every day in the mail and they invariably are discarded. i accepted this one from Household Bankd, however, because of the promised interest rate and credit limit.  to renege on this credit limit--the same day i get the first bill--amounts to a bait and switch illegal solicitation.

i've promptly canceled my card and mailed the 159.00 to pay the balance.

Please don't patronize HOUSEHOLD BANK. Their obscene, insulting treatment should not be rewarded.  I am now going to contact the Attorney General's office and The Federal Trade Commission.  I don't think they'll take kindly to this bait and switch underhanded predatory lending either.
